Foundation Dental Alliance Faculty | Enterprise Value, Capital Strategy, and Practice Wealth

Eric J. Morin is the founder and managing partner of Tower Leadership, an Atlanta advisory firm that helps dentists grow their practices, allocate capital, strengthen leadership, and build enterprise value. Tower serves more than 1,000 dental locations nationwide, works exclusively with practices generating at least $1 million in annual revenue, and turns away more than 60 percent of the practices that apply.

Morin is not a dentist, and that's part of the point. He came to the profession through the United States Navy, through financial services, and through helping his wife build a dental practice from a single-doctor startup into a multi-doctor, multimillion-dollar business. That combination gives him a different view of how dentists actually create and preserve wealth.

Most dentists are taught how to produce dentistry. Very few are taught how to build enterprise value.

Eric J. Morin

From the Flight Deck to Dental Leadership

Morin served in the United States Navy from 1996 to 2000 aboard the USS George Washington during Operation Southern Watch. At 19 he led a 30-member team and managed more than $100 million in aviation ordnance assets at a 99 percent accuracy rating, reaching Petty Officer Second Class in two and a half years. The principles he still teaches came out of that experience. Discipline, accountability, clear expectations, and leadership tied to a defined mission.

He earned a bachelor's degree in management from the University of Florida and an MBA from Kennesaw State University, and he completed executive education at The Wharton School.

In 2007 his wife, Dr. Jessica Morin, asked him to help start Family Dentistry at Seven Hills in Acworth, Georgia. Together they grew it into a multi-doctor, multimillion-dollar practice, and it became the testing ground for the financial, leadership, and organizational systems he would later bring to Tower Leadership. Before founding the firm in 2017, he worked in financial services and dental consulting, which gave him a close view of how dentists manage their practices, their investments, and their personal wealth.

The Practice as a Primary Asset

Morin teaches dentists to view the practice as an income-producing asset rather than a job they'll eventually sell. His reasoning is financial rather than sentimental. A practice producing $1 million in annual EBITDA would require roughly $20 million invested at a 5 percent return to replace the same income. Selling may well be the right decision, but only after taxes, debt, transaction costs, lost cash flow, and future investment returns have been modelled honestly.

Tower Leadership's work centres on four connected areas.

  • Business strategy and competitive positioning
  • Capital allocation inside the practice
  • Organizational structure and operating systems
  • Leadership development throughout the organization

He helps owners improve the business they already control while preserving the ability to grow, reduce chairside dependence, add locations, bring in partners, or sell when the timing and terms support their larger goals. His position on exits is precise and gets misread easily. He isn't against selling. He's against selling prematurely, or exchanging a productive asset for a smaller financial future.

Selling your practice should not be the day your income retires. Do not trade your greatest asset for a smaller future.

Eric J. Morin, Beyond the Big Payday

Author, Educator, and Speaker

Morin has written three books on dental business and wealth creation. Dental Wealth argues that most dentists retire with less income than they had while working and lays out a framework for using the practice as the chief investment vehicle. Financial Evolution broadens the lens to entrepreneurs generally and is built around his Five Stages of Wealth framework. Beyond the Big Payday, published in 2025, was written for the consolidation era and teaches dentists to read their own business the way a buyer reads it.

He has co-hosted The Dental Wealth Podcast since 2018, producing more than 200 episodes on practice growth, finance, leadership, and ownership. He was selected for the ForbesSpeakers platform in 2019 and publishes at Dental Economics, where his three-tier valuation framework distinguishing appraised, market, and economic value is among the most-cited in the transitions conversation. He also leads the annual Tower Impact Summit in Atlanta, which has co-headlined Morin alongside Jay Abraham and features Tim Tebow, Jesse Itzler, Brian Hunter, and Dr. Mary Pham in its 2026 edition.

Faculty Focus

Morin's work with Foundation Dental Alliance includes:

  • Building dental practice enterprise value
  • Capital allocation and financial strategy
  • EBITDA quality and practice valuation
  • Creating income beyond chairside production
  • Group and multi-location practice growth
  • Leadership development and organizational structure
  • Evaluating private equity and affiliation opportunities
  • Understanding the true economics of a practice sale
  • Building wealth without surrendering control prematurely
  • Creating long-term ownership, transition, and legacy options

Morin isn't selling growth and he isn't selling exits. He's selling optionality, which is the ability for a dentist to choose continued ownership, growth, partnership, or a sale on terms they fully understand and control. For an owner five to ten years out from a decision, that's the conversation worth having early.
